Warframe Developer Digital Extremes Unveils New Peek at Soulframe, an Upcoming Free-to-Play Fantasy Action-MMO

Back in July 2022, Digital Extremes introduced Soulframe, marking the studio’s first new property since Warframe’s debut in 2013. The initial reveal included a 30-minute gameplay teaser, but details have been scarce until now. During the recent TennoCon 2024 fan convention, DE provided an extensive update on Soulframe, offering fans a closer look at this highly anticipated title.

TennoCon 2024: A Closer Look at Soulframe

TennoCon 2024 served as the perfect stage for Soulframe’s development team to share new insights and progress. The livestream, described as a mammoth event, began with an in-depth presentation of Soulframe’s inaugural devstream. This devstream not only showcased new content but also highlighted the developers’ commitment to community feedback and their iterative design process.

Their livestream was 7 hours straight, tho.

During the devstream, the team introduced various members of the development crew, shedding light on their roles and contributions to Soulframe. The segment included discussions on the game’s development journey, illustrated by concept art and behind-the-scenes stories. The developers emphasized their dedication to listening to community feedback, which has significantly influenced the game’s direction.

A notable point of discussion was the Soulframe Preludes, a series of early gameplay snippets and concept releases aimed at gathering community input. These preludes have been instrumental in shaping the game, with developers adjusting features and mechanics based on player feedback. This approach ensures that Soulframe evolves in alignment with player expectations and preferences.

Ancestral Influences and Combat

The gameplay demonstration provided a fascinating glimpse into the mechanics of Soulframe. One standout feature is the impact of ancestral selection on character development. Players can choose physical attributes for a mother figure, which subsequently affects the appearance and abilities of their character. This innovative approach adds depth to character customization and storytelling.

Judged by its combat mechanic, I don’t get it, is Soulframe a Greedfall game but made by Digital Extremes?

The cinematic prologue sets the stage for players, revealing the narrative significance of ancestral choices. As the story progresses, players encounter the concept of acquiring the next ancestor, propelling them into the game’s world with unique hand-to-hand combat scenarios. This mechanic not only enriches the lore but also introduces dynamic gameplay elements.

While a definitive release date for Soulframe remains unannounced, creative director Geoff Crookes expressed the team’s ambition to expand access to more players by autumn (Q3). This tentative timeline has generated excitement and anticipation among fans eager to explore the new game.

So, we just need to wait and see the major upcoming update from Soulframe in the next Q3 this year.
