If you’ve been out of the loop, Aeternum is not just an expansion but a complete reimagining of New World. First teased in June, it brought with it some cryptic messaging that left many fans puzzled. Despite the somewhat unclear marketing, the core message is straightforward: Aeternum aims to reinvent the original New World experience by introducing a host of new features while refining what worked in the 2021 release.
But what changes in the Aeternum expansion will significantly boost new or returning players to play Aeternum in this October?
A Pacier Story?
One of the most significant changes in Aeternum is the narrative pacing. The story has been enhanced to provide a more engaging experience through in-game cinematics and pre-rendered cut-scenes. This approach not only makes the storyline more digestible but also deeply immerses players into the lore of Aeternum, something that was previously lacking in New World’s 2021 iteration.
Combat Overhaul and Cross-Platform Multiplayer
Combat mechanics have received a significant overhaul, making battles more dynamic and satisfying. This is coupled with cross-platform play, which for the first time, allows Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC players to experience the game together. Enhanced controller support ensures that console players are not left at a disadvantage, creating a more level playing field across platforms.
New PvP Zone, Raids, and Trials
For those who thirst and thrive on competition, Aeternum introduces New World’s first-ever large-scale PvP zone. This new battleground offers an intense experience where strategy and teamwork are key. Alongside this, a new 10-player raid has been added, providing fresh challenges for groups who want to test their mettle against some of the most formidable foes Aeternum has to offer.
In addition to group content, solo players haven’t been forgotten. End-game solo trials have been introduced, giving solo adventurers a way to prove their skills and earn valuable rewards. Beyond these trials, Aeternum brings a host of other additions, including new classes, crafting systems, and questing opportunities, further expanding the game’s depth.
Schedule of Open Beta
The open beta for New World: Aeternum is set to launch on September 13th and will run until September 16th. This beta is open to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S players, offering a comprehensive look at the first 30 levels of the revamped game. This includes access to the opening experience, key questlines, mounts, arenas, and expeditions—a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the changes before the full release.
Pre-loads for the beta client start on September 11th, so you can maximize your playtime once the beta kicks off. While it’s important to note that progress made during the beta won’t carry over to the main game, there will be rewards that transfer to the full release, giving you an extra incentive to participate.
The full release of New World: Aeternum is scheduled for October 15th. This release will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. If you’re a PC player who already owns the base game and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, you’re in luck—your game will be upgraded to the Aeternum experience for free. However, if you do not own the expansion, you will still receive the revamped main story and quest flow, but not the full set of features introduced in Aeternum.
