The Failure of Skulls and Bones Might be The Reason Why Ubisoft Insists on Making Remakes For Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

The Failure of Skulls and Bones Might be The Reason Why Ubisoft Insists on Making Remakes For Assassin's Creed Black Flag

In a recent interview, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot made a thrilling revelation that is sure to excite fans of the Assassin’s Creed series. Guillemot disclosed that Ubisoft is working on multiple remakes of beloved Assassin’s Creed games. Although he did not specify which titles are being remade, this announcement aligns with previous reports that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is among those receiving a remake.

Yves Guillemot’s Exciting Announcement

During the interview on Ubisoft’s website, Guillemot shared insights into the company’s future plans. While much of the discussion covered familiar territory—such as the potential of generative AI to create more intelligent and interactive NPCs—Guillemot’s mention of upcoming remakes stood out as particularly intriguing. He stated, “Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

This is a pretty interesting topic since Skull and Bones is one of the most disappointing multiplayer and live-service games this year. Remaking some of their famous titles, especially The Black Flag, one of the simulators of how to be a great pirate in the vast ocean, might be helping their player’s base back.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: A Pirate’s Tale Reimagined

This confirmation supports a report from Kotaku last year, which claimed that Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Skull and Bones, is deeply involved in the remake of the fan-favorite Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The project was said to be in its earliest stages, with completion not expected for several years. Guillemot’s recent comments bring fresh hope and speculation about which other titles might be getting the remake treatment. Given the enduring popularity of Assassin’s Creed 2, many fans are hopeful it will be among the chosen ones.

Diverse Experiences in the Assassin’s Creed Universe

Guillemot also touched on the future direction of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, highlighting the variety of experiences players can expect. When asked if the difference between the leaner Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the more traditional Assassin’s Creed Shadows represented a new strategic direction, Guillemot affirmed the commitment to diverse gameplay experiences. “There will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year.”

Upcoming Titles: Hexe and Jade

Guillemot’s interview also shed light on some of the other exciting projects in the pipeline. Assassin’s Creed Hexe, announced back in September 2022, is set in 16th century Europe and promises to offer a distinctly different experience from its predecessors. Targeting a 2026 release, Hexe is expected to be a significant departure in terms of setting and gameplay. Meanwhile, the mobile-focused Assassin’s Creed Jade is anticipated to launch in 2025, bringing the Assassin’s Creed experience to a new platform.
